If I was professionally advising the Navy Times how to use their blog to complement their online news services (something my company actually does for a living btw, so this advice acts as a free consulting service), I would advise them to post more entries like this.
Blog posts like that are image changers, because it tells the rest of the story and contributes context to deadline driven news stories, and allows the readers to give feedback right back to the reporters. That transaction (information out, information in) is one way to increase the value of social software within their business model.
The Scoop Deck post is the back story to a Navy Times article written by Phil Ewing on the upcoming LCS deployment. This blog previously discussed the original news article a few weeks ago, and Cmdr. Gabrielson was kind enough to drop by and engage that discussion.
Check out the remarks in full by Cmdr. Don Gabrielson regarding the LCS, delivered Nov. 12 Scoop Deck has published. I think this is an excellent addition to the ongoing LCS discussion, and a very smart use of Scoop Deck by Phil Ewing of Navy Times. Well done.
